Jumla and Rara lie in the remote Karnali region, Northwest of Kathmandu. This trek goes through villages whose inhabitants have never seen tourists, it is a relatively 'undiscovered' region.  The landscape is made-up of long ridges covered with temperate forests and alpine pastures enclosing high valleys. Summer rainfall is low, but winter snow can be heavy and persistent. Since the region is fairly high and free from monsoon thunderstorms, the summer season is ideal for trekking. Winters are cold, but in the autumn trekkers are rewarded with a profusion of alpine flowers. The type of birds that are found Yellow Weaver, Black necked Greve, Common Golden Eye, Himalayan Woodpecker, Hill Pigeon, Finn's Weaver, Hume's Ground Pecker, Brameling, Fire-tailed Sunbird, Fire-fronted Serin.
