Upper Dolpo Hidden Valley Trek - 20 Days

This is one of the wildest and most remote trekking route in Nepal.

From Katmandu we fly to Juphal via Nepalgunj, the mid-western part of Nepal, then commence trekking up to the Phoksundo Valley through tiny valleys and summer yak grazing lands. On the way we can see the beautiful Kagmara Peak. We trek through dark forest and white river canyons to reach the village of Ankhen, the entry point of the Shey Phoksundo National Park. High ridges and deep gorges draw us on until we see the great Phoksundo Lake and towering above the western shores Kanjiroba Peak, one of the most dramatically beautiful sights in the Himalayas. We can visit Phoksundo Gomba, the century old monastery dedicated to the ancient shaman Bon Po religion. Ancient Bon Po and Tibetan Buddhism is still alive in these remote parts. We cross over 5000 m. high passes and finally reach the Gandaki Valley. We fly back from Jomsom to Kathmandu via Pokhara.

'The Snow Leopard', by Peter Mathiason, is a recommended book to read for this trek. It is beautifully written, mixing a personal story with a magic journey.
