Rara Lake, elevation 2980m., is the focal point of Lake Rara National Park and is a popular destination for treks in western Nepal. The route, however, is very much off the beaten track and affords glimpses of cultures and scenery different from that in the rest of Nepal. Rara Lake itself is a clear high-altitude lake ringed with pine, spruce and juniper forest and in the distance snow-capped Himalayan peaks.
The pristine Lake Rara is also known as Mahendra Tal, the biggest lake in Nepal. The lake is surrounded by richly forested hills, Chuchemara Danda at 4087m. is the best vantage point to get stunning views of the lake and the thickly forested hillsides and snowcapped peaks around.
Other summits in the Park area are Ruma Kand (3731m.) and Malika Kand (3444m.) to the north of the lake. The habitat supports diverse a nd rich wildlife and birdlife.
